Horseshoe Bay ferry to Langdale and Roberts Creek

Roberts Creek sits on the Sunshine Coast, a mainland region with no road link to Vancouver. You reach it by ferry, boat or seaplane. The usual route is the Horseshoe Bay ferry to Langdale, BC Ferries route 3. The crossing takes 40 minutes. Langdale is the southern gateway to the coast, and Roberts Creek lies further along Highway 101, between Gibsons and Sechelt.

The ferry only gets you across Howe Sound. The rest of the trip is a bus ride or a drive, and that part is easy to forget when you plan a day from Vancouver. If you would rather have the logistics handled, compare Vancouver tours and Sunshine Coast day trips before you decide how to travel.

The sailing back from Langdale to Horseshoe Bay carries a base fare of CAD 0 for these passenger and standard vehicle groups. Do not count the Horseshoe Bay fare twice when you budget a round trip. Prepaid saver offers can carry other prices and may already include a booking, so check the total at checkout.

For most visitors without a car, the cheapest plan is simple: pay the adult terminal fare at Horseshoe Bay, ride the local bus on the coast and sail back at the zero base fare.

Our pick: a tour with pickup at the terminal

Pickup and return are at the ferry terminal, so it fits a day when you arrive by ferry; the ferry ticket itself is extra.

Check-in, timing and parking at Horseshoe Bay

What to plan for before you leave Vancouver.

Check-in

If you have a reservation, vehicles and foot-passenger groups check in between 60 and 30 minutes before departure. Without a booking, ticket sales and check-in close 10 minutes before sailing, and boarding follows the order of arrival. That cut-off is not a reason to arrive at the last minute, especially in summer.

Evening sailing

The sailing that used to leave Horseshoe Bay at 5:30 p.m. now leaves at 6:05 p.m. in the shoulder season and at 6:10 p.m. in the off-peak season. Check the current timetable before you plan a late return or a dinner on the coast.

Reservations

The advance booking rule for vehicles from Horseshoe Bay applies to the Nanaimo route, not automatically to Langdale. A reservation for Langdale is optional and costs CAD 20 per booked direction. It is worth a look on busy summer weekends.

Terminal works at Langdale

A berth project at Langdale runs until 31 March 2027. The operator plans no cancellations because of it, but vehicle queuing, traffic routing and boarding can change. Follow the signs and the staff.

Parking

The long-term lot at Horseshoe Bay costs CAD 19.25 per day, CAD 11 for 6 hours or CAD 14 for 12 hours. Short-term parking costs CAD 3 per hour or CAD 23.25 per day. A private company runs the lots, and paying by app can add a third-party fee.

From Langdale to Roberts Creek

Two ways to cover the last stretch along Highway 101.

By bus. Sunshine Coast Transit line 1, Sechelt to Gibsons and Langdale Ferry, stops at the Roberts Creek Store near the village centre. A typical early run leaves Langdale at 6:05 a.m. and reaches the Roberts Creek Store at 6:45 a.m., so 40 minutes. Times differ by trip and day, so check the current timetable.

Do not mix it up with line 90. That express runs along Highway 101 and the Flume Road area and does not call at the Roberts Creek Store, so it is not the same link to the village centre.

A single ride costs CAD 2 for adults and for youth aged 13 to 18, a DayPASS costs CAD 4, and children up to 12 ride free. A single ride includes no transfer. With a contactless card or Umo, the second paid ride on the same payment method turns into a DayPASS. With cash, bring the exact amount.

By car. Drive off the ferry and follow Highway 101 to Roberts Creek. Allow time for the unloading queue at the terminal.

A summer-only alternative is the floatplane between Vancouver and Sechelt, whose 2026 season started on 26 June. It is a seasonal link and not a year-round substitute for the ferry. The base in Sechelt is on Wharf Road in Porpoise Bay, and you still need onward transport to Roberts Creek.

From Vancouver airport to Roberts Creek

No ferry sails from the airport, so the trip has several links.

Canada Line and bus 257

Take the Canada Line from YVR to Vancouver City Centre. Then board bus 257 on West Georgia Street between Granville and Seymour, which runs to Horseshoe Bay.

Ferry and coast bus

Cross to Langdale, then continue on Sunshine Coast Transit line 1. TransLink and BC Transit are separate systems with separate tickets, so an airport ticket does not cover the coast buses.

Airport fares

Since 1 July 2026 adult cash fares in Metro Vancouver are CAD 3.50 for one zone, CAD 5.10 for two and CAD 6.70 for three. A trip that starts at YVR adds a CAD 6.50 airport fare in most cases. Buses are always one zone, and so is all travel after 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends and holidays. A single fare is valid for 90 minutes.

Total time

Traffic, transfers and the ferry wait decide how long the trip takes, so no fixed total is realistic. Avoid tight connections on your arrival day.
